Borshchevaya Dona is a mid-early beetroot variety with a vegetation period of 85 to 110 days, allowing for a harvest in relatively short time. The root crops have a round, slightly flattened shape, with an average weight of 300 to 500 grams. The beet skin is smooth, and the flesh features a rich dark-red color with characteristic white-pink radial rings. This beet variety is juicy, sweet, and tender, making it especially attractive for culinary use. Thanks to the high uniformity of the root crops and resistance to rot, the variety is characterized by good storability and transportability. Borshchevaya Dona was bred specifically for preparing hot and cold first dishes, imparting them a sweet pleasant taste and rich red hue. Besides culinary merits, fresh beet juice is widely used in folk medicine due to its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as high vitamin C content. The juice is also used as a natural food colorant when making pink marshmallow and homemade sausage. Baked root crops help increase hemoglobin levels and have no contraindications during pregnancy. Growing the Borshchevaya Dona variety is possible on any soil, except heavy and acidic, making it universal for various climatic conditions. Sowing is carried out in spring when the soil warms up to 4-15 °C, seeds are sown at a depth of 20-30 mm. To increase yield, regular watering, loosening, and feeding after thinning and during the closure of foliage is recommended, using organic fertilizers such as cow dung solution and ash. Beetroots possess moderate resistance to cold, drought, and bolting, ensuring a stable harvest. Store root crops in a cool, well-ventilated room at a temperature up to +2 °C, which allows to maintain their freshness and quality for a long time.
