Sweet Corn SUGAR EARTH

Why "Sakharniy Pochatok" is the Choice for Canning and Freezing

If your goal is not just to harvest, but to stock up on quality preserves for winter, "Sakharniy Pochatok" by Gavrish is a reliable choice. Unlike super-sweet hybrids intended for fresh consumption, this variety is prized for its dense grain structure and balanced flavor profile, specifically tailored for processing.

Characteristics and Cultivation Specifics

The plant reaches a moderate height of 140–160 cm, making maintenance easier compared to taller varieties. Ears measuring 18–20 cm are perfectly sized for standard jars and are convenient for both manual and mechanical husking.

• Purpose: Specifically bred for canning and freezing. The kernels retain their shape during heat treatment and do not turn mushy, preserving their original texture.
• Reliability: The selection work by Gavrish ensures predictable results when standard agricultural practices are followed.

Who is this variety for?

"Sakharniy Pochatok" is a great fit for gardeners and small-scale farmers focused on home preservation. The key strength of this variety is its resistance to processing. A potential drawback is that it lacks the extreme "dessert-like" sweetness found in modern SH2 imported hybrids, so those accustomed to raw, fresh consumption might find the flavor profile less intense. However, in marinades or after being thawed, this variety outperforms many "sweeter" competitors, maintaining the classic corn taste that is often lost in high-sugar hybrids.
