Sweet Corn Bagration

Technological potential of the Bagration hybrid

The SH2 (supersweet) sugar corn hybrid from VNIS is a selection solution focused on maximum sugar accumulation and a dense grain texture, making it ideal for industrial processing and consumer needs. The use of SH2 genetics ensures that sweetness is preserved long after harvest, as the conversion of sugar to starch is significantly slowed down.

Phytosanitary profile and plant architecture

Standing at 140–160 cm, 'Bagration' is categorized as a medium-height hybrid, which simplifies mechanical harvesting and reduces the risk of lodging during high wind conditions. Genetic stability is the core strength of this hybrid. Comprehensive resistance to Helminthosporium leaf blight, Fusarium wilt, and common smut allows farmers to minimize fungicide usage while maintaining the crop's biological potential.

Ear morphology as a profitability factor

The cob length of 22–25 cm combined with a high density of grain (40–45 rows) indicates an intensive hybrid type. This structure results in a high yield of marketable mass, which is crucial for canning plants and the deep-freeze segment. Excellent ear filling eliminates gaps, directly impacting the commercial presentation of the product for the fresh market.

• Endosperm type: SH2 (supersweet), high threshold of soluble sugar content.
• Pathogen control: effective against a complex of leaf spots and smut diseases.
• Versatility: suitable for canning, freezing, and fresh market sales due to the preservation of grain consistency.

Integrating this hybrid into crop rotation allows for stable harvests even under conditions that require high stress tolerance against major corn fungal diseases.
