The 'Varyag' sunflower is an early-maturing, high-oil-content variety created through multiple self-pollination and targeted selection of early-ripening plants. It is characterized by high productivity and adapted to the natural conditions of Western Siberia, particularly the southern forest-steppe. The vegetative period lasts 109-116 days, with an average yield reaching 15.1 c/ha and a maximum of 29.9 c/ha. The variety exhibits high resistance to white mold, immunity to downy mildew, and sunflower moth, ensuring reliable crop protection and stable production of high-quality harvest. Seeds contain a high oil content of 54.7%, making this variety attractive for the oilseed industry.
To protect sunflower crops from weeds, the use of the Varyag herbicide produced by UkraVit is recommended. This powerful soil preparation effectively combats a wide range of annual grass and broadleaf weeds even before sowing. The active ingredients of the herbicide — metolachlor (315 g/l) and terbutylazine (190 g/l) — provide reliable protection against weeds such as goosegrass, field bindweed, field anagallis, and others. The herbicide is released as a suspension concentrate and is applied at a rate of 4.0-4.5 liters per hectare.
The effectiveness of the Varyag herbicide is maximal at air temperatures from 12°C to 25°C, which corresponds to spring conditions in the growing regions. The preparation is compatible with several other herbicides; however, mixing it with alkaline agents is not recommended. Using the herbicide in combination with the Varyag variety allows obtaining highly productive and quality sunflower crops resistant to diseases and pests, contributing to increased yield and economic efficiency of production.
