Sunflower variety Pearl is a decorative annual plant developed at VNIIMK through crossbreeding of the low-growing sample LD4 with the line VIR721, followed by self-pollination and selection by morphotype. This variety features light-yellow ray florets and light-green leaves with a bluish tint. The plant has a low-growing, compact, single-head habit, making it especially attractive for landscape design and use in group plantings, flowerbeds, borders, and flower gardens.
Pearl sunflower grows up to 180 cm tall, with upright stems and large flower heads up to 25 cm in diameter. Seeds are sown in open ground in April–May, with seedlings emerging within 6–11 days at a temperature of 15–21 °C. The plant prefers sunny spots with fertile soil, which promotes its healthy growth and decorative appearance.
Although sunflower is generally an important agricultural crop used for oil and feed production, the Pearl variety is primarily intended for decorative purposes. Its unique morphological features and compactness make it an ideal choice for enhancing gardens and parks, adding vibrancy and originality to landscapes.
