Sunflower EU Avalon

Technological profile of ES Avalon: genetics for stable yields

The ES Avalon sunflower hybrid from "Yevrosem" is a mid-early hybrid designed for intensive farming. The key engineering objective achieved by breeders Posunko and Shatsman is the optimal balance between maturation speed and oil accumulation. With a vegetation period of 100–110 days, this hybrid allows for optimized harvest logistics, minimizing the risks associated with late-season adverse weather conditions.

Phytosanitary protection at the genetic level

A distinctive feature of ES Avalon is its comprehensive resistance to major pathogens that limit sunflower productivity. Integrated resistance genes provide a reliable barrier against diseases such as:

• White and Grey Rot (Sclerotinia);
• Downy Mildew (Peronosporosis);
• Phomopsis and Phoma.

In practice, this means that even under high infection pressure, the plant maintains the integrity of the head and stem. The reduced need for excessive fungicide application lowers production costs, which is critical for crop profitability.

Morphology and oil potential

The stem height of 170–180 cm indicates balanced vegetative development. This habit is optimal for harvesting: the plant is sturdy enough to resist lodging while efficiently converting solar energy into seed production. An oil content of 45–50% makes ES Avalon an attractive choice for processors, ensuring a high yield of oil per hectare without compromising kernel quality.
