Elion sunflower is a medium-early, two-line hybrid with a vegetation period of about 112-115 days. Plants reach an average height of about 170 cm and are characterized by the absence of branching, green leaf coloration, and yellow disc flowers. The flower head diameter is 20-24 cm, and the 1000-seed weight reaches 58 g. The hybrid has medium seed pitting and lacks edge stripes on the seeds, which is its distinguishing feature.
Elion has a high yield potential, reaching up to 49 centners per hectare, with an average yield in the Central Chernozem region of about 33.9 centners per hectare, and a maximum of 43 centners per hectare. Oil content in the seeds varies from 49 to 50.5%, ensuring a high oil yield — up to 12.9 centners per hectare. It is an intensive-type hybrid, resistant to lodging, which helps preserve the yield and improve product quality.
Special attention has been paid to the resistance of Elion sunflower to diseases and herbicides. The hybrid shows resistance to white mold and false powdery mildew, as well as to herbicides containing tribenuron-methyl at a dosage of 50 g/ha. These properties make it a reliable choice for cultivation in the Central Chernozem region, including Voronezh and Oryol regions. Elion was included in the State Register of the Russian Federation in 2018 and is recommended for intensive agriculture.
