Sunflower COLORADO

Dwarf architecture: technical analysis of the «Colorado» sunflower

The «Colorado» sunflower variety, bred by «Agro-industrial Firm Elita Dona» in collaboration with «Flora-Engineering», represents a targeted solution for farmers prioritizing operational efficiency. The defining structural characteristic of this variety is its dwarf habit. A plant height of 50–60 cm fundamentally shifts standard agrotechnical approaches to sunflower cultivation.

Technical aspects of dwarfism

• Reduced wind resistance and lodging stability. With a height of just 60 cm, the plant's center of gravity remains close to the soil. This makes the variety resistant to severe winds that typically trigger lodging in standard, taller sunflower varieties.
• Optimized harvest logistics. The compact habit allows the harvester to operate at higher speeds with minimal cutting losses. Uniform height across the field eliminates the need for complex header adjustments during operation.
• Vegetative mass efficiency. The reduced height does not require the plant to divert massive volumes of water and nutrients into building a thick stalk. The primary energetic resources are channeled into head development, maximizing the utilization of soil potential.

«Elita Dona» has focused on a compact biological model, which in practice enables higher planting densities and simplified in-field logistics. The «Colorado» variety is ideal for farms aiming to reduce fertilizer application costs and simplify post-harvest soil treatment, as the volume of crop residues is significantly lower compared to standard hybrids.
