Sunflower Heliagras

Stability and Oil Content: Betting on RAGT Heliagras

French breeding from RAGT 2n has long established itself as a benchmark for reliability in the field, and the "Heliagras" hybrid is a prime example. This is a choice for the grower who refuses to compromise between high oil content and rapid maturation.

Agronomic Potential and Vegetation

Heliagras's trump card is its intensity of development. A vegetation period of 90-100 days allows this sunflower to fit comfortably into crop rotation, clearing the field early enough for high-quality soil preparation for winter crops. The narrow-ovate seed shape and compact flattened head contribute to uniform ripening, which is critical during late-season moisture deficits.

A Protective Shield for Crops

The originator, Societe Ragt 2N S.A.S, has focused specifically on the hybrid's phytosanitary profile. Heliagras demonstrates high resistance to key pathogens that often cause premature crop failure:

• White rot (Sclerotinia) — minimizes the risk of head and stem infection.
• Downy mildew — confidently resists Peronospora.
• Phomopsis and Phoma — major threats the hybrid overcomes through genetic resistance.

Who is this hybrid for?

This hybrid is optimal for farms operating in regions with risks of early autumn frosts or moisture deficits in late August. An oil content of 50–55% makes it a highly profitable commodity for processing. It is not just a "plastic hybrid for any soil," but a precise tool for those who value crop purity and a consistently high yield of marketable seeds per hectare.

Strengths and Weaknesses

The strengths include high oil content and predictable maturation dates. The weakness lies in its requirements for strict agronomic practices: the compact head requires optimal planting density to fully realize yield potential. When managed correctly, Heliagras turns every hectare into a high-quality asset.
