Hybrid sunflower EC Alpha is a high-yielding oilseed variety developed for cultivation in dry steppe and forest-steppe zones. It is characterized by high drought and heat tolerance, enabling successful cultivation under limited water conditions. Plants reach a height of 170 to 200 cm and possess a robust root system, ensuring resistance to lodging and efficient use of soil water and nutrient resources. The vegetation period is 115-120 days, promoting rapid crop maturation.
The hybrid is resistant to seven races of the parasitic weed dodder (A-G+), including newly emerged more aggressive races, as well as to major sunflower diseases such as downy mildew, white and gray rot, Phomopsis, and Phomosis. Additionally, EC Alpha is tolerant to herbicides based on tribenuron-methyl (e.g., Granstar and Express), which simplifies weed control and enhances the effectiveness of agronomic practices. The flower head diameter reaches up to 22 cm with a tilt of approximately 45°, and the 1000-seed weight is about 60 g.
EC Alpha is characterized by a high oil content in seeds — from 43 to 52% — making it attractive for oil production. The recommended plant density at harvest is 50-55 thousand plants per hectare. The hybrid features uniform and synchronized flowering, consistent height, and high plasticity, allowing it to respond well to mineral fertilizer application and adapt to various soil-climatic conditions.
