German breeding by Betaseed GmbH presents the BTS SMART 2040 N (F1) hybrid, setting new standards for intensive sugar beet production. Its registration in Ukraine in 2026 provides farmers with access to genetics adapted to modern climatic challenges and advanced protection systems.

Agronomic recommendations

• Sowing dates: The optimal window opens when the soil at seed depth warms up to +6…+8°C. Early sowing allows for the most efficient use of winter-spring moisture, which is critical for root development.
• Planting pattern: The recommended density at harvest is 95,000–105,000 plants per hectare. A standard row spacing of 45 cm ensures an optimal balance between nutrient area and operational efficiency.
• Soil requirements: The hybrid shows high responsiveness to structural chernozems and gray forest soils with a neutral pH (6.5–7.5). Avoid areas with waterlogging and high subsoil compaction.

Care by growth stages

During the cotyledon stage (first pair of true leaves), it is critical to ensure the absence of weed competition. Thanks to the SMART system, the hybrid allows for a flexible approach to herbicide strategy, minimizing phytotoxicity. During the period of intensive leaf rosette growth (row closure stage), the plant requires sufficient nitrogen nutrition; however, after July, nitrogen application should be limited to prevent excess potassium accumulation and reduced sugar content.
