Agronomic Guidelines for Growing Acolia Soybeans

Introduced to the Ukrainian market in 2026, Acolia by SAATBAU LINZ eGen is a high-performance variety that requires precise field management to maximize yield. Success with this variety depends on strict adherence to sowing dates, soil preparation, and nutrient management.

Sowing Strategy and Density

Acolia requires soil temperatures to reach at least +10°C to +12°C at a seeding depth of 3–4 cm to ensure uniform emergence. Planting into cold, wet soil significantly increases the risk of root rot. The recommended harvest density is 550,000 to 600,000 plants per hectare. For narrow-row planting (15–30 cm), the crop canopy closes faster, which naturally suppresses weed growth and preserves soil moisture.

Soil Requirements and Moisture Management

The variety performs best in fertile, well-structured soils with a neutral pH (6.5–7.5). Liming is essential in acidic soils to support effective nitrogen fixation. As a legume, Acolia requires mandatory seed inoculation with high-quality Bradyrhizobium japonicum strains. In regions prone to drought, moisture-conserving tillage practices such as No-Till or Strip-Till are highly recommended to sustain the crop during the critical flowering and pod-filling stages.

Crop Management by Growth Stages

• Emergence to Branching: Weed control is vital during the first 40 days. Pre-emergence herbicides are preferred to minimize early-season stress on the young plants.
• Flowering to Pod Filling: This is the peak demand period for water and nutrients. Foliar application of micronutrients, particularly boron and molybdenum, can significantly boost pod set. Regular scouting for spider mites and other pests is necessary during this window.
• Maturation: Acolia is known for its excellent harvestability. Avoid delayed harvesting to prevent pod shattering, and monitor grain moisture levels closely to optimize combine settings.
