Sorghum variety DEMETRA is a corn hybrid of Ukrainian breeding developed for grain and silage cultivation. This hybrid is characterized by rapid initial growth and high drought resistance, ensuring stable productivity even under limited moisture conditions. Due to the increased anthocyanin content, the plant withstands brief spring cold snaps well, which contributes to successful development in various climatic zones, especially in the steppe and forest-steppe zones of Ukraine.
DEMETRA is distinguished by high resistance to major corn diseases, such as smut and fusarium rots, as well as to pests, including the European corn borer. The hybrid exhibits high heat tolerance and lodging resistance, which helps preserve the harvest and facilitates harvesting. Morphobiological characteristics include plant height over 240-250 cm, presence of about 18 leaves on the main stem, cob length of 22-23 cm, and 14-16 rows of grains with 38-42 grains per row.
The potential grain yield of the DEMETRA variety reaches 13.5-14 tons per hectare, making it attractive to agrarians focused on obtaining high and stable yields. The hybrid responds well to improved growing conditions, allowing maximum use of the soil and climatic agronomic potential. It is recommended for cultivation in steppe and forest-steppe regions, where it demonstrates the best results in terms of yield and resistance.
