Description ICB 0905
ICB 0905 — a unique Ukrainian sugar beet variety, characterized by a cylindrical root with a large size and weight of about 700 grams. The root has a cylinder-conical shape with a relatively smooth surface, which reduces soil adhesion during harvesting. The leaf rosette is semi-spreading, the leaf blade is medium-sized, solid, and moderately corrugated. The root system is taprooted, penetrating to a depth of 2–2.5 meters, which contributes to the plant’s drought and cold resistance. The vegetative period lasts up to 120 days, allowing cultivation in various climatic conditions, including the steppe zone. The variety exhibits high resistance to major sugar beet diseases such as cercospora, powdery mildew, and root rot. ICB 0905 is recommended for technical use in sugar and molasses production, and it is also used in culinary applications for making borscht and kvass. Additionally, the crop serves as a by-product-free feed crop, expanding its application possibilities in agriculture. For successful cultivation, optimal agronomic conditions are recommended: sowing is conducted when soil temperature reaches 6–8°C at a depth of 6–7 cm, with a seeding rate of 2–10 kg of seeds per hectare. Plants require adequate moisture, especially during germination and root formation, although the variety shows drought tolerance. The optimal soil pH for cultivation is 6.5–7.5. The plant density at harvest reaches 85–100 thousand plants per hectare, ensuring high yield and product quality.
