Description EURIKA
The winter rye variety 'EURIKA' is a diploid form with a bristled ear, characterized by a medium-late maturity period. The plant is medium-height, with a cylindrical, loose ear that is brittle and prone to shattering during threshing, ensuring grain threshability at 70–85%. The grain is glassy and red in color, with a 1000-grain weight ranging from 32 to 53 grams, indicating high-quality seed material. The ear and stem are covered with a strong waxy coating, which contributes to resistance to unfavorable conditions. The variety 'EURIKA' exhibits high winter hardiness and drought tolerance, making it undemanding regarding cultivation conditions and suitable for successful cultivation in various regions, including the Pskov region and Forest-Steppe zones. The plant is resistant to lodging and shattering, as well as moderately resistant to diseases such as powdery mildew, brown rust, snow mold, and ear fusarium. Additionally, the variety shows resistance to pests, including the European corn borer and leafhopper, significantly reducing crop losses. The yield of the 'EURIKA' variety is high and stable: in various regions, it ranges from 28.3 to 63.6 centners per hectare, and at certain experimental stations, it reaches over 80 centners per hectare. Protein content in the grain ranges from 12.9% to 22.8%, while gluten content reaches 30.5%, making this variety attractive for agricultural production and processing. Due to its agronomic characteristics and high yield potential, the 'EURIKA' variety is recommended for widespread use in agriculture.
