Rose Schegonzo

Practical maintenance of the 'Schegonzo' Shrub Rose

When working with plant material from Piet Schreurs Holding, reliability is the key expectation, and 'Schegonzo' truly delivers. This shrub is compact, standing 60–80 cm tall and reaching 50–70 cm in width, making it an ideal choice for both tight flower borders and structural garden arrangements.

Flowering and Care Requirements

The apricot-orange, double-bloomed flowers (7–10 cm in diameter) are the highlight of this variety. They bloom consistently from early summer through autumn. While it lacks fragrance, this is actually a benefit for patio-side planting, as it keeps insect activity low. From a maintenance standpoint, 'Schegonzo' is a dream. It shows high resistance to common fungal threats such as powdery mildew, brown spot, and mycospherella leaf spot, which significantly reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications.

Hardiness and Field Performance

With a frost resistance down to -25°C, this variety handles cold winters with minimal protection. During the season, it shows great durability—the blooms don't fade quickly in intense sunlight, nor do they rot during extended rainy periods. 'Schegonzo' is effectively a professional tool for landscapers, offering a steady, high-quality display with minimal labor input. It is easy to prune and generally requires only standard irrigation to stay healthy and vibrant all season long.
