Cultivating the 'Schoury' Climber Rose

Working with genetics from Piet Schreurs Holding requires a clear understanding of Dutch breeding standards. 'Schoury' is essentially an aesthetic investment. While the plant shows robust growth, prioritize a proactive fungicide schedule to manage potential outbreaks of mycospherella leaf spot, powdery mildew, and brown spot, especially in humid microclimates.

Maintenance and Disease Control

Despite the high disease resistance rating, vigilance is key. Standard prophylactic treatments during the vegetative stage are essential to maintain leaf health. Because this is a climbing rose, adequate airflow around the plant is vital to prevent fungal issues from escalating, particularly in the lower canopy.

Blooming and Aesthetic Value

The standout feature is the flower size (10–15 cm) and the sophisticated palette: a blend of pink, peach, orange, and apricot. The flat, heavily double-flowered form is visually striking, complemented by a strong, lingering fragrance. The plant blooms in distinct waves. Post-bloom, sanitary pruning and a boost of fertilizer are critical to ensure the rose has the energy reserves for the subsequent wave. Root health depends on consistent, balanced moisture; avoid waterlogging at all costs to maximize the longevity and vibrancy of the blooms.
