Genetic Potential and Origin

The Sirius spring rapeseed is the result of extensive scientific cooperation between the VNIIMK Institute (Russia) and Chinese biotechnological researchers (Jinghaisilu). This simple linear hybrid was developed to meet the demand of farmers for a high-yielding crop capable of mitigating risks in unpredictable weather conditions.

Economic Performance

A key feature of Sirius is its combination of vigorous growth and high oil content (45–50%). With proper agricultural management, the cultivar can achieve yield levels of 60–70 dt/ha, making it a highly attractive option for commercial operations focused on the oilseed export market.

Phytosanitary Resilience

One of the primary challenges in rapeseed production is managing fungal and bacterial diseases that can devastate crop yields. Sirius features built-in genetic resistance to a wide range of pathogens:

• High tolerance to phoma stem canker and sclerotinia;
• Resistance to alternaria blight and root rot;
• Robust defense against downy mildew and bacteriosis, significantly reducing the need for chemical pesticide application.

Agronomic Profile

The plants reach a height of 150–160 cm. The stable stem structure promotes uniform ripening and simplifies mechanized harvesting. This hybrid is an excellent choice for regions where the combination of high oil content and field resistance to disease is the critical factor for profitability.
