Radicchio of the Rondeel variety — a medium-maturing hybrid developed by the Dutch company Rijk Zwaan, intended for cultivation in open ground with a vegetation period of 35–40 days. This variety is characterized by round root vegetables with a diameter of about 4 cm and a weight of approximately 25 g, featuring a bright red thin skin and juicy white flesh. The flesh is uniform, without cavities or cracks, and has a mildly spicy flavor without bitterness, making the radish very tasty and crunchy. The fruits retain turgor and market appearance during transportation and storage under cool conditions, ensuring high storability and attractiveness on the fresh market.
The Rondeel variety is resistant to false powdery mildew and root rot, and it tolerates insufficient lighting and minor frosts down to -3 degrees. The plants are lightly leafy, which simplifies care and reduces the risk of disease. For optimal growth, it is recommended to follow a sowing rate of up to 200 seeds per square meter, planted according to a 5x10 cm scheme and sown at a depth of 1.5–2.5 cm. It is important to avoid overcrowding and excessive application of nitrogen and organic fertilizers, as this negatively affects root development.
To achieve a high yield, regular watering, especially during dry periods, timely weed control, and fertilization of plants are necessary. Rondeel radish is known for its high productivity — from one square meter, you can obtain 2.5 to 4.5 kg of quality fruits. Due to its excellent taste, disease resistance, and good transportability, this variety is an excellent choice for cultivating on the fresh market throughout the season, from spring to autumn.
