Odesska Crane is an autumn soft wheat of universal type, developed by the Selection-Genetic Institute of NAAN and included in the State Register of Plant Varieties of Ukraine since 2011. The variety is characterized by medium-early maturity and low sensitivity to photoperiod, allowing successful cultivation on various agro-ecological zones, including the Polissia, Forest-Steppe, and Steppe regions. The vegetation period ranges from 276 to 283 days, ensuring stable grain formation under different climatic conditions.
Odesska Crane is characterized by high productivity with yields up to 7.6 t/ha and a potential productivity of up to 76.2 c/ha. Plants are medium-height, ranging from 102 to 107 cm, with high grain density — up to 58 kernels, contributing to the formation of large and high-quality harvests. The 1000-kernel weight varies from 46 to 58 grams, and the protein content in the grain is 13.4-13.8%, ensuring excellent baking qualities. The crude gluten content ranges from 29.5-34.6%.
The variety exhibits high resistance to lodging, lodging of spikes during overripening, as well as root rot, septoria, fusarium, brown rust, and powdery mildew, confirmed by resistance ratings of 7-8 points. The recommended seeding rate is 4.5-5.5 million germinating seeds per hectare. Thanks to its combination of high productivity, resistance to extreme conditions, and excellent grain quality, Odessa Crane is a reliable choice for cultivation in various agro-climatic zones.
