Agronomy and Cultivation Standards for Sereza

Sereza, a potato variety developed by AGROPLANT HOLLAND B.V. and officially registered in Ukraine in 2026, represents a modern approach to high-yield potato production. Achieving the variety's genetic potential requires strict adherence to intensive cultivation practices.

Planting and Soil Management

The variety thrives in well-structured, aerated soils with an optimal pH range of 5.5 to 6.5. Planting should commence once soil temperatures at a 10 cm depth reach +8°C to +10°C. To ensure uniform tuber development, a planting density of 45,000 to 50,000 plants per hectare is recommended, typically utilizing 75–90 cm row spacing with 28–32 cm between tubers in the row.

Growth Phases and Maintenance

• Emergence: Early weed control and maintaining soil moisture are critical to ensure a uniform stand.
• Tuber Initiation and Bulking: This is the most water-sensitive phase. Consistent irrigation (maintaining 70–80% of field capacity) is essential to prevent growth cracks and ensure consistent tuber size.
• Maturation: Proper nutrient management, particularly potassium, is vital during the bulking stage to enhance skin set and storage quality.

Sereza responds well to split nitrogen applications. However, growers should exercise caution: excessive nitrogen late in the season can delay maturity and increase susceptibility to late blight. Integrated pest management (IPM) should be prioritized to protect the canopy throughout the growing cycle.
