Mahagon sunflower is an early-maturing hybrid with high yield potential, developed by French breeders Limagrain Europe S.A. Plants reach a height of 160–170 cm, have good foliage and a large head with large, deep seeds. The hybrid is characterized by good uniformity and simultaneous maturation, which facilitates harvest. Mahagon is resistant to shattering, lodging, and drought, making it versatile for various soil and climate conditions and cultivation technologies, including minimum and zero tillage. Oil content in Mahagon sunflower seeds ranges from 40.4% to 50%, indicating a high oil potential of the hybrid. Yield can reach over 40 c/ha, and in some regions, such as the Krasnodar Krai, it exceeds the average standard. The mass of 1000 seeds is about 47.6 g, indicating large and high-quality seeds. The hybrid is also a highly productive nectar source, adding extra value to agriculture. Mahagon has resistance to the herbicide LMR and moderate susceptibility to diseases such as phomopsis and dodder, but it is susceptible to white mold. This requires attention when selecting agronomic measures for plant protection. The hybrid is recommended for cultivation in various regions, including the North Caucasus and Kostanay regions, confirming its adaptability and stability under different conditions.
