Description

Surprise is an early-ripening annual physalis that grows quickly and yields delicious fruits within 120 days from sowing. The plant has creeping, densely leafy stems up to 50–70 cm long, making it compact and easy to grow in open ground or garden beds. The fruits are round, yellow, weighing up to 15 g, with amber-yellow flesh that is juicy and aromatic, resembling a mix of strawberry and pineapple.

Physalis 'Surprise' is distinguished by its high resistance to overheating and self-pollination. It can set fruits even in extreme weather conditions, making it a reliable choice for gardeners facing variable climatic situations. The fruits often drop while green; only after ripening to a yellow color do they reach their full flavor potential – sweet with a slight fruity tartness.

To achieve maximum yield, it is recommended to sow seeds for seedlings in mid-March, followed by transplanting 4–5 plants per square meter of open ground. Given the intense growth, abundant feeding and irrigation until mid-August are important to stimulate vegetative growth and avoid excessive generative development. Yield can reach 1 kg/m², and the fruits are suitable both for fresh consumption and for making jams, compotes, and other dishes.
