Physalis floridana 'Philanthrop' is a mid-season annual with a growing period of about 120–130 days from seedling emergence to full maturity. The plant is compact, forming a dense bush that does not require pruning and is easily grown from seedlings sown in mid-March. In open ground, it is planted at a 35×40 cm scheme, with a recommendation of 5–6 plants per square meter for optimal development.
Fruits of this variety have a pale yellow color with characteristic lilac-purple speckles and weigh up to 1.5 g. The flesh is juicy, yellow, with no strong aroma, yet intensely sweet with a slight specific flavor reminiscent of vegetable physalis. Fruits drop only upon full maturity and maintain integrity due to high fruit set, making them convenient for fresh consumption.
Physalis 'Philanthrop' exhibits good tolerance to overheating and self-pollination. However, the plant is prone to generative development; therefore, to stimulate vegetative growth, abundant fertilization and regular watering until mid-August are necessary. The yield reaches 0.9–1 kg/m², making it attractive for both home growing and small-scale commercial plantations.
