Pepper Ilica

Practical potential of the Illicha hybrid

For farmers focusing on stable demand for hot peppers, the Illicha variety from the Turkish breeding powerhouse May-Agro Tohumculuk Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. serves as a versatile tool. Its key advantage is adaptability to cultivation methods: the hybrid performs excellently in both protected greenhouses and open fields, allowing for efficient production scheduling.

Agronomic features and application

• Determinate growth type: The limited height of the bush significantly simplifies crop management. You will save resources on complex staking and extensive pruning, which directly lowers the cost per hectare.
• Maturation dynamics: The shift in fruit color from deep dark green (technical maturity) to bright red (biological maturity) allows producers to target two different market segments. Green peppers are highly sought after for fresh market supply and pickling, while red ones are perfect for drying, paprika production, and hot sauces.
• Resilience: Turkish breeding by May-Agro traditionally emphasizes resistance to temperature fluctuations and stress conditions, which is crucial for open-field farming where climatic impacts are most unpredictable.

By choosing this hybrid, farmers secure a predictable outcome: the compact plant habit combined with high productivity makes "Illicha" an optimal choice for operations where harvesting speed and transportability are top priorities.
