URAL BATYR

Peony URAL BATYR — a Chinese peony variety developed in the 1960s by breeders O.A. Kravchenko, L.N. Mironova, and A.A. Reut at the Botanical Garden-Institute through free pollination of the Victoire de la Marne variety. Bushes reach heights up to 70 cm, have a compact, densely foliated form with thin stems. Leaves are of medium length, deep green, glossy, slightly pubescent on the underside, trifoliate, which gives the plant decorative appeal.

Flowers of the variety are double, coroniform, red in color with a diameter up to 14 cm, fade slightly in the sun. Petals are inverted obovate with scalloped edges, well-developed anthers, pink stigmas, and stamens are absent. The peduncle is sturdy, capable of bearing up to two flowers, and up to 25-42 flowers can bloom on one bush. The peony has a strong aroma, making it especially valuable for decorative greening.

The variety belongs to mid-late season, blooms in late June for 10–11 days. It is distinguished by high decorativeness, rated at 94 points, as well as resistance to winter cold and drought. The peony URAL BATYR is not susceptible to diseases and pests, has a growing season up to 155 days. It is propagated by dividing the bush and green cuttings in the bud stage using growth stimulants. Thanks to its qualities, the variety is widely used in the southern forest-steppe zone for decorative greening.
