Paeonia 'Pysanka Kolomyi' is a interspecific hybrid developed from several paeonia species, including Paeonia lactiflora 'Adolphe Roussean', Paeonia officinalis 'Rubra Plena', and Paeonia decora. This triploid cultivar features a cup-shaped flower with slightly ruffled petals and a vibrant, saturated red hue. The plants are semi-spreading and densely foliated, enhancing their ornamental appeal in landscape compositions.
'Pysanka Kolomyi' belongs to the early-blooming group of peonies, flowering in the third decade of May, allowing enjoyment of its beauty at the start of the season. The cultivar's name is associated with the Ukrainian tradition of decorating Easter eggs — pysanky — and also with the city of Kolomyia in Western Ukraine, renowned for its museum of decorative Easter eggs, underscoring the plant's cultural and historical significance.
The cultivar was registered in 2009 and belongs to the National Botanical Garden named after M. M. Gryshko of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. It is suitable for ornamental use in gardens and parks, thanks to its bright coloration and early blooming, making it a valuable addition to peony collections and landscape projects.
