Peony Firefly

Technical Potential of Peony 'Svitlyachok'

Peony 'Svitlyachok' is a product of the selection program at the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the NAS of Ukraine. Unlike typical decorative garden forms, this cultivar exhibits a distinctive vertical architecture, reaching a height of 250 cm. This extreme height is the defining parameter for both cultivation management and landscape spatial planning.

Structural Features and Biological Profile

• Bush Architecture: At 2.5 meters tall, the plant requires wind protection and specialized support systems. The robust aerial part exerts significant pressure on the root system, necessitating deep soil preparation and optimal drainage during the planting phase.
• Universal Application: The cultivar's genetic adaptability allows for its use as a vertical accent in tiered landscape designs, as well as a valuable base for regional selection research.
• Reproductive Stability: As an outcome of professional academic breeding, 'Svitlyachok' possesses a high degree of phenotypic stability, consistent with the standards of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The practical value of this variety lies in its ability to create vertical landscape anchors unattainable with standard peony cultivars. Due to its significant habitus, planting density must be carefully managed. Proper spacing is essential to ensure adequate air circulation and prevent fungal infections caused by high humidity in the root zone.
