Peony CAREEN GREY

Depth of Color and Genetic Resilience

The ‘Karen Gray’ peony, developed by the Federal Research Center for Horticulture, represents a significant achievement in domestic breeding, offering gardeners a combination of aesthetic brilliance and robust health. Unlike many cultivars that struggle with gray mold under damp conditions, ‘Karen Gray’ is noted for its superior resistance to fungal infections, making it a reliable choice for variable spring climates.

Visual Impact and Practical Use

This herbaceous peony is defined by its deep, saturated burgundy semi-double flowers, which reach a diameter of 17 cm. Standing at 70 cm tall, the plant maintains a well-proportioned structure that does not require additional staking. Whether planted in a garden border or grown in a large container on a terrace, it provides a consistent, high-impact display. Its mid-season bloom period (May 31 – June 15) serves as a perfect transition in the landscape.

Cultivation Essentials

For optimal performance, ‘Karen Gray’ requires a sunny location and well-draining, nutrient-rich soil. It is particularly sensitive to waterlogging, necessitating proper site preparation to ensure long-term health. The strength of its stems makes it an excellent candidate for cut flower production, allowing for elegant bouquets that last well in vases.
