The Bashkir Pearl peony is a new hybrid peony variety developed at the Botanical Garden of Ufa city. This variety is distinguished by high resistance to adverse weather conditions, diseases, and pests, as well as good winter hardiness, drought tolerance, and heat resistance. Thanks to these qualities, the peony is successfully grown in the central region of Russia and is widely used both for landscaping and for cut flowers.
The peony flowers are large, full-double, rose-like in shape with a diameter from 16 to 20 cm. The color is light pink with a pearl or pearlescent sheen, which gives the flowers special elegance and decorative quality. The flowers are heavy, so the bushes reach a height of 70 to 100 cm and require mandatory support. The peony has a strong floral aroma, and flowering occurs in an average term, while side buds also form large flowers, ensuring abundant and spectacular flowering.
For successful cultivation, it is recommended to observe certain planting and care rules. The distance between bushes should be at least one meter, and the planting hole should be no less than 60 cm in depth and width, with possible increased depth on heavy and waterlogged soils to organize drainage. The root collar should be at the level of the hole edges, and after watering and soil settlement, it can be covered with loose soil. Care includes regular weeding, soil loosening, and watering, as well as fertilization with organic and mineral fertilizers in the first half of summer. After flowering, it is recommended to apply phosphorus-potassium fertilizers for recovery and preparation for the next season. In autumn, after the first frosts, leaves are carefully cut off to the soil level, and the planting site is mulched with compost. The variety is propagated by division of the rhizome, which allows preserving all its valuable qualities.
