Pelargonium Exotica

Pelargonium 'Exotica': Georgian Selection for Your Garden

Developed by the Federal Research Center for Subtropical Science (RAS), Pelargonium 'Exotica' is a prime example of adaptive breeding, blending aesthetics with resilience. Originating from the specific climate of Georgia, this variety was designed as a versatile landscaping tool, capable of thriving equally well in confined indoor settings and open garden beds.

Why 'Exotica' Stands Out from Standard Varieties

The core distinction of this cultivar is its structural habit. Unlike many trailing varieties that require constant pinching and support, 'Exotica' maintains a dense, tidy bush form naturally. This saves the gardener from the necessity of frequent heavy pruning.

• Consistent Blooming: Delicate pink flower heads retain their color depth even during temperature fluctuations, which is crucial for outdoor cultivation.
• Foliage: The deep green color of the leaves serves as a perfect backdrop, highlighting the softness of the pink petals. The foliage demonstrates high turgor resilience.
• Versatility: It is one of the few varieties that transitions seamlessly between pots and open soil, maintaining its compact decorative appeal throughout the season.

Who is this variety for?

'Exotica' is an optimal solution for city dwellers who prefer balcony gardening in the summer followed by wintering the plant on a windowsill. It is also an excellent choice for landscape designers looking for reliable material for border planting where predictable plant growth is required. While collectors might miss the flashy variegated leaves, the classic solid green foliage makes this variety a "workhorse" — reliable, hardy, and structurally stable.
