Onion F1 Festival

The Dutch Standard for Industrial Processing

The «Festival F1» onion from Bejo Zaden is a specialized solution for producers focused on industrial processing and long-term storage. Unlike most short-day hybrids, this variety demonstrates remarkable shelf life for its segment, remaining marketable for up to 8 months. Its introduction to the market addressed the demand from large-scale farming operations for a product with high dry matter content (10–12%) suitable for drying and freezing.

Agronomy and Protection

A key advantage of this hybrid is its genetic resistance to pink root rot (Pyrenochaeta terrestris). This makes «Festival F1» an essential tool in crop rotations where soil-borne pathogens limit the choice of varieties. The plant produces an elliptical bulb with dense bronze-yellow scales, perfectly suited for mechanical harvesting and logistics.

• Type: Short-day hybrid.
• Application: Industrial processing, long-term storage.
• Protection: High resistance to pink root rot and tolerance to various rot diseases.
• Quality metrics: Dry matter content 10–12%, storage capability 7–8 months.

Bejo's focus on this specific onion profile has effectively filled the niche for early-maturing yet highly durable hybrids. For the agronomist, this translates to predictable yield quality with minimal losses during sorting and post-harvest handling.
