Onion Avalon

Maximizing Profit with Avalon: The White Onion Choice

For professional growers targeting the fresh produce market, Moravoseed’s Avalon has become a reliable standard in the white onion category. Developed with a focus on consistency and shelf-life, this variety addresses the specific requirements of supermarket chains and the food service industry, where visual uniformity and interior quality are paramount.

Agronomic Performance and Production Cycles

With a maturity period of 120–130 days, Avalon is a mid-late variety that serves as a strategic tool for farmers. Its ability to be stored for 6–7 months allows producers to bypass the peak harvesting season and supply the market during the winter and spring when white onion prices typically hit their peak.

• Uniformity and Mechanization: The round shape and consistent bulb weight of 110–120 grams make Avalon perfectly suited for automated grading and packing lines. The robust outer skin helps minimize physical damage during harvest and sorting.
• Storage Management: While white onions are notoriously delicate, Avalon demonstrates remarkable resilience if post-harvest protocols are followed. Proper curing and neck-drying are essential to ensure the 6–7 month storage capacity that characterizes this variety.

Growers often choose Avalon for its aesthetic appeal—the bright white scales remain crisp and clean throughout the storage period. To achieve maximum yields, this variety thrives under drip irrigation, which prevents moisture fluctuations and ensures that the bulbs reach their optimal size while maintaining the high quality demanded by retail contracts.
