Cabbage Splash Ball

Why Splash Ball is the Choice for Early Market Professionals

When it comes to early-season cabbage, farmers look for a balance between speed of maturity and head density. Splash Ball by the French breeding house Vilmorin-Mikado is the solution for those who refuse to sacrifice quality for early harvest. Unlike many ultra-early hybrids prone to cracking under minor moisture fluctuations, this hybrid demonstrates enviable stability.

Key Advantages

• Crop Uniformity: With a 40–50 day maturity period from transplanting, it allows producers to hit peak market demand when prices are at their highest.
• Optimal Mass: Heads weighing 1.0–2.0 kg fit perfectly into retail and local market standards. It is a highly marketable size that appeals to end consumers.
• Market Appeal: Its vibrant green color and classic round shape make Splash Ball one of the most attractive offerings on the produce shelf.

Who is this hybrid for?

Splash Ball is designed for intensive vegetable farming. A recommended density of 70,000–80,000 plants per hectare requires high agronomic standards, but investments in fertilization and irrigation pay off through high marketable yield. It is not a variety that forgives poor management, but it is a precision tool that delivers predictable financial results when protocols are followed.

Vilmorin-Mikado’s French breeding tradition emphasizes stress resistance. Splash Ball adapts successfully to spring temperature swings without bolting, maintaining internal head density—a key factor that sets it apart from other market alternatives with similar harvest windows.
