Description VLADYKINSKOE SEMKO
Vladynskoe Semko – an annual variety of pickleweed (borago), valued as a salad and medicinal plant. The leaves are large, oval, densely hairy, and have a characteristic fresh cucumber aroma; they are used in vegetable, meat, and mushroom salads, as well as in okroshka and seasonings for various dishes. After flowering, the leaves become coarse but retain their flavor and are used in soups, vinaigrettes, and other traditional dishes.

The plant is easy to grow: the stem is erect or slightly arching, branched, and thick (up to 5 mm) with a hairy surface. The leaves are semi-spreading, and the large blue flowers are gathered in corymbose panicles and appear from June to September. Vladynskoe Semko tolerates cold and drought well, does not require special soil conditions, but prefers fertilized, light soils. The variety is considered cold-hardy and can grow for several years via self-seeding.

The culture has beneficial properties: it contains carotene, vitamins C and PP, sugars, organic acids, saponins, and potassium salts. Young leaves are used in salads and okroshka, while flowers are used for making beverages (tea, fruit drinks, kvass, wine) and crystallizing desserts. Additionally, the plant is an excellent nectar source, attracting bees due to its rich aromatic profile.
