Artichoke Tsezar

Technical Profile of the 'Caesar' Artichoke

The 'Caesar' artichoke variety by SDK-SIDS is a mid-season selection product engineered for stability in temperate growing conditions. The vegetation period spans 115–125 days, allowing for efficient production scheduling within the frost-free season.

Morphology and Yield Characteristics

The plant exhibits a robust growth habit, reaching heights of 150–200 cm. Such vertical development necessitates sufficient spacing to maximize light interception and nutrient uptake. Key parameters of the edible flower heads include:

• Diameter: 7–10 cm;
• Weight per head: 100–150 g;
• Coloration: Distinctive purple-green hue, indicating a balanced anthocyanin profile.

The defining feature of 'Caesar' is its culinary profile; the flesh possesses a tender, sweet texture, making it a premium choice for high-quality produce markets.

Production Insights

The plant's height (up to 2 meters) requires site selection that provides protection from excessive wind to prevent lodging. The heads, weighing between 100 and 150 grams, offer an ideal portion size for commercial preparation and culinary use. By leveraging genetic material from the originator 'Sedek' and the production infrastructure of SDK-SIDS, this variety maintains high phenotype consistency under standard agricultural management.

For optimal results, growers should prioritize consistent moisture management during the flowering initiation phase, as water stress can negatively impact the tenderness of the flesh and final head weight. This variety is designed for growers targeting consistent, high-quality, and reliable market output.
