Narcissus Jetfire (Narcissus cyclamineus 'Jetfire') – an early-flowering cyclamen-narcissus variety that attracts attention with a bright yellow flower about 7–10 cm in diameter and an original cylindrical corona with a ruffled orange edge. The flowers are arranged horizontally, the petals are round and narrowly elliptical, slightly curved backward, creating an elegant look.
The plant reaches a height of 25–30 cm (in some sources – up to 15–25 cm) and has narrow linear leaves. Jetfire is distinguished by a strong pleasant aroma, which makes it a popular choice for compositions with muscari, tulips, and violets, as well as for planting in flowerbeds, rockeries, under trees, or in containers. It grows well in full sun or light partial shade, preferring loose soil with a weakly alkaline or neutral reaction.
The flowering period begins in late March–April and continues until May. Bulbs are planted in autumn – from August to early October, with a planting depth of 10 cm and a distance between bulbs of about 10 cm. The variety belongs to hardiness zones 3–4 (USDA 4a), which allows it to survive in moderately cold climatic conditions without the need for additional shelter.
Care for Jetfire is simple: after flowering, cut off the flower stalks, leaving the leaves for further growth. The plant is unpretentious but does not tolerate excess moisture or soil drying out; moderate watering throughout the season is necessary for lush flowering. If necessary, you can feed 4–5 times a season, preferably using nitrogen-phosphorus fertilizers. On one place, the plant can live up to five years, after which repatriation is recommended – digging up bulbs in mid-summer and planting them in a new place.
Jetfire is ideal for those who are looking for a beautiful, fragrant and easy-to-care-for option of early-flowering narcissuses, capable of decorating a garden or alpine slide with minimal effort.
