Honeysuckle Amfora

Heritage of the Vavilov Institute

The Amfora honeysuckle variety represents a significant achievement in the breeding program of the N.I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources. Established as a reliable variety for commercial and private growers, it has maintained a steady market presence due to its consistent performance and hardiness in temperate climates.

Technical Profile and Application

While many honeysuckle varieties are marketed for fresh consumption, Amfora is specifically valued for its processing potential. The berries possess a structure and flavor profile that shine in the kitchen rather than the bowl. Key technical specifications include:

• Berry weight: 0.8–1.2 grams.
• Flavor profile: A bold sweet-and-sour taste with a distinct, pleasant hint of bitterness characteristic of the species.
• Plant structure: Reaches a height of 1.2–1.5 meters, providing a balanced, compact footprint that eases harvesting efforts.

Amfora is a preferred choice for producers targeting the value-added sector. Its firm skin and concentrated flavor make it an excellent candidate for jams, preserves, juices, and industrial frozen mixtures. The subtle bitterness mentioned by growers actually serves to add complexity to syrups and preserves, setting this variety apart from overly sugary types.
