Flax TOMSK 18

Siberian Resilience for Fiber Production

Tomsky 18 is a specialized flax variety developed by the Siberian Federal Scientific Center of Agrobiotechnologies. It was designed specifically for growers who prioritize crop stability and disease resistance over multi-purpose use. In the world of flax, it is known as a reliable fiber-producing variety that thrives in challenging, high-moisture agricultural zones.

Why Tomsky 18 stands out

• Superior Disease Tolerance: The primary economic advantage of this variety is its natural field resistance to fusarium wilt and flax rust. By mitigating these two major yield-killers, Tomsky 18 effectively reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications.
• Optimized Lifecycle: With a maturation window of 75 to 90 days, it is well-suited for regions where the growing season is compressed. This allows for predictable scheduling and harvesting, minimizing the risk of yield degradation due to late-season weather events.
• Fiber Quality: While it produces brown seeds, its genetic focus is entirely on the stem and fiber architecture, ensuring high-quality raw material for the textile and manufacturing sectors.

Is this variety for you? Tomsky 18 is a "specialist, not a generalist." It is not a dual-purpose (oil/fiber) crop. If you are looking for an oilseed variety, this is not the right choice. However, for specialized fiber producers, the combination of short growth duration and robust resistance to fungal pathogens makes it an exceptionally safe and efficient choice for your crop rotation.
