The Hemerocallis PAPER MOON is a herbaceous plant with a short flowering period: each large flower blooms for only one day. The flower coloration ranges from pale cream to yellow and golden hues, giving the plant special decorative appeal. The plant reaches a height of 50 to 100 cm, has basal leaves that are widely linear and can be arcuate or straight with sharp tips.
The plant prefers to grow in partial shade or sunny spots, however, dark-colored varieties need protection from bright sun. Hemerocallis grows well on moist, humus-rich soils with a neutral or slightly acidic pH level. Excess nitrogen promotes enhanced green mass growth but worsens flowering. During dry periods, regular watering is required, and soil should be added as roots grow. Hemerocallis reproduces vegetatively by dividing the bush, as well as by seeds, with flowering usually beginning 3–4 years after sowing.
To maintain plant health, it is important to ensure good drainage and avoid overwatering, as increased humidity can lead to fungal and bacterial diseases, such as root rot. Hemerocallis is often used in decorative greening of gardens, parks, and landscape design, especially near water bodies, due to its resilience and impressive appearance.
