Lettuce Tuccadona

Genetic Potential and Morphology

The «Tucadona» lettuce from Rijk Zwaan is a high-yielding Romaine-type hybrid. Its architecture features a vertically oriented rosette with a well-defined head, providing excellent marketability and ease of mechanical harvesting. The leaves exhibit a deep, dark-green color, making it a premium choice for both fresh-cut markets and culinary applications.

Technical Resistance to Pathogens

A primary technical advantage of this variety is its genetic resistance to various strains of downy mildew (Bremia lactucae). In intensive cultivation systems, where pathogens evolve rapidly, such built-in resistance allows growers to minimize fungicide applications, reducing production costs and lowering pesticide residues in the final product.

Agronomic Performance

• Maturation Cycle: As an early-maturing variety, it allows for shorter production cycles, enabling more rotations per season and ensuring an earlier market entry.
• Yield Capacity: The large head weight ensures a high commercial output per hectare, optimizing land utilization.
• Structural Integrity: The dense leaf structure contributes to excellent shelf-life and durability during shipping, maintaining its turgor and fresh appearance for longer periods.

By choosing Rijk Zwaan's «Tucadona», growers invest in Dutch plant breeding expertise that emphasizes crop uniformity—a critical factor for logistics planning and maximizing profitability in professional agriculture.
