Lettuce TARS

Buttery structure and agronomic nuances of the Tars hybrid

The «Tars» lettuce variety by Ooo Global Sids is a classic butterhead type designed to achieve a stable yield within a standard vegetation period. The primary engineering goal achieved by the originator, Global Sids, during the development of this hybrid was to optimize head density while maintaining the elasticity of the buttery leaf.

Technological potential of the head

The rosette formation is optimized for uniform biomass accumulation. The average head weight is achieved through the active performance of the root system, capable of efficiently absorbing nutrients during the rapid growth phase. Unlike crisphead (iceberg) types, «Tars» possesses a specific cellular structure that reduces the risk of premature bolting during minor temperature fluctuations.

• Leaf type: Buttery, ensuring high resistance to mechanical damage during transport.
• Maturity phase: The mid-season segment allows for organized sequential harvest planning.
• Head construction: Medium density provides optimal airflow within the rosette, minimizing the likelihood of rot development in the lower section.

Practical application of this hybrid is effective in both open field and protected conditions. The buttery nature of the leaf dictates specific requirements for post-harvest handling: the head density allows for the use of automated packaging lines without compromising marketability. For an agronomist, selecting this variety represents a balance between productivity and predictable harvest timing.
