Cassandra salad represents a new, high-yielding variety of leaf lettuce of the Oakleaf type, developed by Dutch breeders. It is distinguished by its mid-early maturity period — the vegetative period lasts about 40–41 days from full germination to the onset of market readiness. Plants form a massive rosette of leaves weighing from 300 to 450 grams, with rounded leaves of a rich dark red color, possessing an excellent taste. Plant height reaches 15–16 cm, rosette diameter about 25 cm. Leaves have a medium-bubbly surface with a weakly wavy edge and small slits.
Cassandra variety is intended for year-round cultivation both in open and protected ground, including hydroponic systems. It is distinguished by high resistance to downy mildew and is not prone to infestation by green lettuce aphids, ensuring crop stability and product quality. Additionally, the plant has a powerful root system and relative resistance to root system diseases, necrosis, and bolting, making it a reliable choice for various climatic conditions.
This lettuce is valued for its high yield and quality commercial characteristics, confirmed by yields up to 147 centners per hectare. Cassandra is excellent for fresh consumption, salad preparation, and garnishing dishes. Thanks to its taste qualities and resistance to stressful growing conditions, the variety is widely used in garden-plot farms and is recommended for cultivation in various regions.
