Lettuce ROZALIN

Aesthetics and technology in one leaf

The «Rosalin» lettuce by Enza Limited is the professional segment's answer to a market demand where visual appeal is as critical as yield. As an Oak Leaf type, this hybrid shifts the standard lettuce perception due to its deep, intense red coloration, which remains vibrant even under challenging lighting conditions.

The Agronomic Foundation

Rosalin's strength lies in its comprehensive genetic protection. In intensive greenhouse or open-field environments, the risk of fungal disease is high. However, the breeders at Enza Zaden Beheer B.V. have embedded fundamental resistance to:

• Downy Mildew (Bremia lactucae) — the primary threat to most lettuce varieties during humid periods.
• Powdery Mildew — a disease that can ruin the marketable quality of the leaves within days.

This makes Rosalin a predictable choice for large-scale production. Agronomists can reduce fungicide expenditures, and the final product reaches the shelf without the chlorosis or necrosis typical of more vulnerable cultivars.

Target Audience and Performance

This hybrid is ideal for farms focusing on HoReCa supply chains and premium retail. The intense red color is more than just aesthetics; it is a marketing edge, providing a sharp contrast in salad mixes and giving dishes a high-end, chef-prepared appearance. Unlike many other red-leafed varieties, Rosalin possesses excellent structural integrity, allowing the leaves to retain turgor and shelf life longer after harvest. Its potential downside is strict adherence to cultivation protocols: to maximize leaf density and pigment expression, balanced nutrition and optimal plant spacing are essential; otherwise, growers may encounter elongated rosettes.
