Potato variety Vasilek is a medium-early table variety developed in the Moscow region and intended for cultivation in the Central region. The plant is of medium height with a semi-upright form, dark green medium-sized leaves and small flower buds. Tubers are elongated-oval in shape with thin, smooth blue skin and creamy flesh. The mass of marketable tubers ranges from 77 to 112 grams, and starch content is from 12.6 to 15.9%. The taste of tubers is rated as good, making the variety attractive for table use. Variety Vasilek is characterized by high yield and marketability, with market yields ranging from 93 to 256 centners per hectare, and maximum yield may reach 482 centners per hectare. Tubers have high storability — about 96% — ensuring good storage and product preservation. The potato is resistant to several diseases, including potato scab and late blight of leaves and tubers, as well as resistance to golden cyst nematode and some viral diseases, contributing to stable yields and reduced losses during storage. Variety Vasilek does not require special growing conditions; it is adaptable to various soil types and climatic conditions, making it suitable for different regions. Due to the high antioxidant activity of tubers, this potato is recommended for dietary nutrition. Although the variety requires certain attention in agronomy, its disease resistance and good taste qualities make Vasilek an excellent choice for farmers and home growers.
