The potato variety Bryansky Red is a late-maturing table variety of Russian selection, distinguished by high yield and excellent taste qualities. The plant is characterized by high growth and upright stem, with dark green medium-sized leaves and purple-red flower. Tubers are round, with smooth red skin and white flesh, medium depth of eyes. The mass of marketable tubers ranges from 78 to 143 grams, and the number of tubers per plant is from 6 to 10 pieces. The starch content in tubers is in the range of 14.4-16.5%, slightly higher than standard varieties, positively affecting taste and culinary properties.
The yield of the Bryansky Red variety ranges from 175 to 299 centners per hectare, with maximum yield up to 352 centners, exceeding the yields of standard varieties Crystal and Temp and matching the level of Nikulinский variety. The tuber marketability is high — from 89 to 98%, and storability reaches 95%, ensuring good product preservation during storage. The variety belongs to culinary type C, making it versatile for various cooking methods, including frying, baking, and making mashed potatoes.
The variety demonstrates resistance to several diseases, including potato cancer (pathotype I), wrinkled and striped mosaic, as well as leaf curl virus. However, it is susceptible to golden potato cyst nematode and moderately susceptible to late blight on foliage, although tubers show moderate resistance to this disease. Due to its stable yield, high marketable tuber output, and excellent taste qualities, Bryansky Red is a valuable variety for cultivation in central regions of Russia.
