Post-emergence systemic herbicide for the destruction of annual and perennial grasses and dominant annual broadleaf weeds in corn crops.
Spectrum of action
Milano, 4% EC, is a highly effective herbicide that eliminates even persistent perennial weeds such as crabgrass, and suppresses thistle development if applied during the rosette stage.
Mode of action
Nicosulfuron inhibits cell division by blocking the synthesis of acetolactate synthase, an enzyme responsible for the biosynthesis of essential amino acids. Milano, 4% EC, is primarily absorbed by leaves and transported to meristematic tissues via both phloem and xylem. It suppresses the development of perennial rootstock weeds (thistle, field bindweed) if applied during the rosette stage of thistle (rosette diameter 5-8 cm) and stem length not exceeding 10-15 cm. The product is safe for the crop throughout the recommended application period.
If replanting corn treated with Milano, 4% EC, is required, it may be done: in spring with corn only or after soybean tillage; in autumn with winter barley or wheat. There is a risk of damage to the subsequent crop rotation on alkaline soils (pH > 8) if dry conditions prevailed between the application of Milano, 4% EC and the planting of the next crop. In such cases, pay special attention to the crop rotation’s resistance to nicosulfuron, which increases in the following order: sugar beet > tomato > buckwheat > flax > wheat > barley > rapeseed > oats > soybean > corn (sugar beet and tomato are the most sensitive crops to nicosulfuron).
Application features
Protective period: 45-60 days depending on application rate, weed species composition, weed growth stage, and weather conditions after application.
Speed of action: Depends on weed growth stage and physiological condition, as well as weather conditions at the time of application and shortly thereafter. Under favorable conditions, growth of sensitive weeds ceases within 6 hours after spraying. Within 7-8 days, they take on a reddish hue. Complete weed death occurs within 7-20 days after treatment.
Apply the product during corn growth stages from 4th to 10th leaf, provided the crop does not shield weeds from the spray. Application should be conducted during the peak growth phase of both weeds and corn. Milano, 4% EC, should not be applied in cold or hot weather, or under excessive moisture. Ideal conditions for application are temperatures between +15 °C and +25 °C, with optimal soil and air humidity.
Do not conduct inter-row treatments within 7 days before or after applying Milano, 4% EC. Cultivation may be performed 10-14 days after spraying. Application rate: 1.0-1.25 L/ha. A lower rate (1.0 L/ha) is used for controlling annual grasses. For heavily infested areas with quackgrass (from rhizomes) and perennial weeds, increase the rate to 1.5 L/ha. Working solution rate: 200-300 L/ha.
Advantages
Does not require surfactant additives, ensuring ease and convenience of preparing the working solution
Controls perennial grasses such as crabgrass and quackgrass, which emerge from seeds or rhizomes
Highly effective residual herbicide
Short half-life; after corn harvest, winter wheat and barley may be sown
Low toxicity to birds and bees
