Bordo is a mid-season technical grape variety intended for the production of red table and dessert wines, including wines of the 'Cahors' type. This variety was bred at the NIIVV 'Magarach' by clonal selection from the Cabernet Sauvignon variety and is distinguished by higher yield, a large reserve of coloring substances, and increased sugar accumulation. The variety's yield reaches up to 155 centners per hectare, and the sugar content in the berries is about 25.5 grams per 100 cm³, providing a rich taste and high quality of the winemaking material.
The Bordo grape is characterized by vigorous bushes and elongated, moderately dense clusters weighing up to one kilogram, although individual clusters can reach 1.5 kilograms. The berries have an oval, slightly elongated shape and a rich burgundy color. The berry pulp is delicate and jelly-like, with a skin that is easily chewed and does not overpower the flavor. The variety is highly resistant to diseases, withstands heat and heavy rains well, while the berries do not crack and retain their elasticity. Thanks to these qualities, the grape stores for a long time and can remain on the vine until frost without losing its taste properties, making it particularly attractive for export.
Bordo adapts well to low temperatures, withstanding frosts down to -23°C, which expands its growing potential in various climatic conditions. This grape variety combines high yield, stable fruiting, and excellent taste characteristics, making it in demand both for industrial winemaking and table consumption.
