The Gladiator variety Victor is a perennial plant from the Iridaceae family, reaching heights of 100 to 120 centimeters. This variety stands out for its large, bright red flowers with an orange drop in the center and ruffled petals, with a diameter of 15-18 centimeters. The inflorescences have a pearly sheen and a dense texture, making them especially attractive for both garden landscaping and cut flowers. The flowering period lasts from July to September, lasting from two to four weeks, allowing one to enjoy the beauty of the plant throughout the summer.
For successful cultivation of the Gladiator Victor, well-prepared soil with good drainage and fertility is required. Loamy and loose clay soils with normal water exchange are considered optimal. Before planting, the soil should be dug up, organic fertilizers and superphosphate added, and drainage ensured to avoid water stagnation. Bulbs are planted in April-May in soil heated to 10-15°C to a depth of about 15 centimeters, leaving at least 35 centimeters between rows. To protect against fungal diseases, the bottom of the planting trenches is recommended to be sprinkled with sand. The plant prefers sunny, protected from strong winds locations.
Care for the Gladiator Victor includes regular watering, especially at the beginning of flowering, as well as hilling after watering to strengthen the root system. Watering should be done in the morning hours, avoiding wetting the stems. To protect against pests, such as thrips, it is recommended to spray the plant with an insecticide twice during the season. Bulbs are sorted, treated with disinfectants, and germinated in the light until shoots appear. Thanks to their decorative qualities and stability, the Gladiator Victor is excellent for growing in the garden, in beds, and even in containers.
