Gladiolus MOTHER

Landscape Design Applications

The 'Mat' (Mother) variety, developed by breeder Andrey Gromov, is a strategic choice for creating continuous flowering displays. Known for its distinct lavender hue and ruffled petals, this gladiolus provides a dense, visual anchor in garden beds. Its ability to maintain 8–10 open florets simultaneously ensures a long-lasting, high-impact aesthetic.

Practical Cultivation Guidelines

• Strategic Placement: With flower diameters ranging from 11–13 cm, the stems are best utilized in the middle or back rows of a flower bed. Given the weight of the ruffled blooms, staking is a necessary agro-operation to prevent lodging during wind or heavy rain.
• Floral Production: While primarily used for landscape decor, the structural integrity of the spikes makes them an excellent candidate for cut flower arrangements. The extended blooming period allows for a extended shelf-life in professional floral designs.
• Maintenance Requirements: To maximize the plant's potential, prioritize fungicide treatments before planting. Due to the ruffled nature of the blooms, monitor for pests like thrips that may hide within the folds of the petals. Consistent hydration during the stem-emergence phase is critical for achieving the full count of open blossoms.

By integrating this variety, growers can achieve a consistent, sophisticated lavender palette that remains vibrant throughout the season, minimizing the need for constant plant replacement.
